Since COVID -19, people work from home and work out much less, which is not good for their health. Some people still work out regularly. Some people want to work out to improve their health, but they can’t keep their workout habits well.Body Motion gives people personal advice and encourages people to stand up and move their bodies more.
I chose user interviews and netnography as my research approach to apply empathy to my target audience, and then generate two types of personas to help develop my user experience process.
I interviewed three people who think they still need help with their workout plan and one person who can totally trust themself and feel satisfied with his workout condition. The interview focused on their behavior and dug into their emotional side, which helped me understand my potential audience.
Digging into the internet, I saw tons of people sharing their thoughts about working out. By browsing these articles, I get to know why people want to work out, and also get a lot of useful information about the positive and negative components of workout plans. This information helped me get a basic understanding of the problems people are facing, and the possible way to encourage people to work out.
Collected all the information from research, I created personas to help me get the idea of user flow.
Based on my research, I defined my value proposition and outlined the different features to define the scope of this project. I created an information architecture that gave clarity to the user flow.
I created a lot of iterations for the different screens of the app. The wireframes helped me make informed decisions on how to structure these screens to achieve the ultimate goals.
To make sure the task flow goes well with real users, I applied paper testing to let two users go through the flow. After collecting their feedback, I modified the primary issue on HOME SCREEN which will influence the user experience.
1. The plan section should cover more space on the screen.
2. User wants to see the progress bar.
3. The “Recommanded exercise” section and “Explore more” section are repeated.
1. So I take the “Explore more” section.
2. Add a “Exercise data” section on top so that people can track their exercise progress.
Winston first time log in. Winston input her basic body index, current working out frequency, intensity and her skill level; Also chooses her working out goal, her desired working out type and frequency. Then the system gives her a recommended plan.
Winston switches to map view and can see nearby users and her friends’ working out plan. Winston tap one person and see the detail and then sends invitation for joining this person.
Benedict browses the sports list and choose his interested sports, tennis. Then Benedict can see the instruction video and like the video.
BODY MOTION keeps style minimalist. Since it is a personal fitness guide application, photography and videography are used a lot. To keep it clean and visually comfortable, I use neutral colors for most of the space and green for some of the highlighted parts. Some saturate colors are applied in the community section, to bring more life to exercise. All buttons and interfaces follow the minimalism rule.
